Hello All!
As I remember back to all my those first days my feelings were always quite similar rather it be my first day of kindergarten, my first day of high school, or my first day of college. I was excited, anxious, and curious of what the year would bring. The same is true of my first days of teaching. I am certain I was just as excited this morning when my alarm clock went off as was each of your children. It was an absolute pleasure meeting and getting to know each one of my students, your children, today. I cannot wait to see the relationships that grow in my classroom and seeing my students grow into amazing people.
Just as this was a big day for your children as well as me, I understand that you, as parents, probably went through a roller coaster of emotions. It is not easy, in fact quite scary, to send your children away for eight hours. The nerves you felt this morning will get better with time. Kindergarten is the start of an amazing educational career. With it being the start, I am sure there are lots of questions. It is my goal that this blog will help you know what our schedule is, what kinds of things are going on in the classroom, and will help you to feel a connection to me. I encourage you to comment on this blog with any questions or comments. I am also available to talk with you via telephone, email, or personal meeting. I feel a relationship between the parent and teacher is important to your child's education. You are always welcome to talk to me about any concerns or questions.
Today was an ice breaker kind of day. It is important, to me, that my students feel comfortable in my classroom, with their classmates, and with me. We worked on getting to know each other. We did activities to work on names, interests, favorites, and getting into a routine. Routine is important which is why each day will be very similar. Kids like to know what to expect. Yes, the activities we do will change each day, but subjects, recess, lunch, and special class will be done in the same order. I also gave your students a tour of the school. They know where their classroom is, where their special classes will be, where lunch will be eaten, where they will go outside, where the nurse is, and where the restrooms and water fountains are located. Anxiety often comes with not knowing what to expect, so today we worked on ensuring your children know what to expect on a day to day basis.
I look forward to being part of this educational journey with your children. I am excited to see the ways my students grow and learn. Learning is an exciting and fun time and will be seen as that in my classroom!!!
